Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How long will it take to get a job?

This varies from person to person. Some people may get a job in 6 months, while others will take 2 years. The main factors depend on your prior experience coding, how intensely you study, and how soon you start applying for jobs.

I have never coded before, where should I start?

We recommend starting with basic html. Free Code Camp's first course takes you through creating a simple web page.

How long does it take to master Javascript or CSS or React?

Programming languages and libraries are always evolving. Instead of thinking you need to study to "master" a language, think more about learning how to build and create things with code. Then it will be easier for you to adapt and apply new languages and technologies.

Is it better to take courses or create a project?

This also depends from person to person. Ideally, one should not only watch videos or take online courses. Having a project can help you apply and remember what you are learning. If you are total beginner and have no idea about coding it is good to go through basic HTML & CSS part first. After that you probably will know enough to get ideas for own projects and you will start build them. At that stage you also will have more resources and start to know what you would like to learn next.

What are other options besides a job?

Many coders employ themselves as freelancers, or by starting their own projects. Check out Upwork.com for freelance job listings, and check out Indie Hackers for a community of coders building their own business projects.
